Pick Up Ends at 5pm

As many of you know I have 2 active children. They are very involved in sports and in August their practices start up again. In addition, I’m a coach for my daughter’s team. They have practice on Tuesdays so I’m going to have to change our pick up time to end at 5:00 pm instead of 6:45 pm. This is temporary and I will change the time back to 6:45 pm starting in November when our season is over.

I apologize that this temporary time change will affect some of you but I hope you understand that my responsibility to my family has to come first.

Please plan accordingly if you need to have your box delivered to your home.

The first day of the pick up time change will be Tuesday, August 5th.

Therefore, from August to November pick up time on Tuesdays will be from when I send the “Ready to pick up email” around 1pm to 5pm.

I will send out an update in November when we revert back to our normal close time.

Thank you in advance for your understanding!

This weekend we will be doing 2 group buys – Sorghum Syrup from Muddy Pond & Great Lakes Grass Fed Collagen/Gelatin. Both will be listed on the market tomorrow (Friday). They will be available for pickup in 2 weeks.

Group Buy: Sorghum Syrup

We will be taking orders for Sorghum Syrup from Muddy Pond Sorghum Mill. One of our fellow co-op members told me about this wonderful small family farm in TN that produces 100% Pure Sorghum Syrup. If you are unfamiliar with sorghum syrup, it comes from a plant usually called “sweet sorghum”. This plant is grown in climates too hot and dry for corn. It originated in Africa before traveling to Asia, Europe, and North America. Other varieties of sorghum are grown for grain or livestock use, but sweet sorghum has a juicier stalk.

Sorghum syrup is made by cooking down the juice from the stalk causing the water to evaporate thus concentrating the syrupy sweetness. Sorghum syrup retains all minerals.

The nutritional profile for a 1 tbsp. serving of sorghum syrup comes to 3 percent of your overall daily value of calcium, 4 percent iron, 5 percent magnesium, 6 percent potassium, 7 percent vitamin B6 and 16 percent manganese.

Sorghum syrup can be used the same as honey or maple syrup.

All sorghum is packaged in attractive plastic jugs that are BPA free.

We only order once a year so don’t miss out!

Group Buy: Grass Fed Collagen & Gelatin

Great Lakes Gelatin (the Green can) Collagen Hydrolysate (beef kosher) Unflavored

I have heard about this wonderful product for many years but have never tried it. Recently a co-op member told me about the great results she’s been getting since she’s been using this product I’m anxious to try it out and thought this product could help others as well.

Gelatin (also known as cooked collagen) has wonderful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging qualities, as it helps to fill in the missing amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) in the standard American diet. This is a completely different from the jiggly gelatin product most of us grew up eating as kids.

Homemade bone broth is chock full of gelatin and very nutrient dense but Great Lakes Gelatin- Collagen is a convenient way to get gelatin consistently into your diet.

What is Collagen Hydrolysate?

Hydrolyzed Collagen is the unique combination of amino acids in concentrated levels that promotes rapid re-production of blood cells for healing and conditioning over other proteins especially for bone and joint health care. This low molecular weight protein is easily digested for healthy enrichment in minutes after ingestion. It will not congeal because it has been hydrolyzed for quick assimilation and improved hydration to the connective tissue. Collagen is important to nitrogen balance, now considered an anti-aging product as it supports age related cartilage damage, and collagen loss. source: http://greatlakesgelatin.com/)

How do I use this product?
You can mix it in drinks, shakes, smoothies, or add a tablespoon to your favorite recipe to give it an anti-inflammatory protein boost. It will dissolve in cold liquids very easily.

How Much Do You Need?
Recommended dosage: Take one rounded tablespoon (10-12 g) in the morning, and the same amount before going to bed in the late evening which will help reduce appetite. This product has a low molecular weight so it will dissolve in cold, warm, or hot liquids.

Important Note: Remember not to get too carried away with gelatin. Adding too much too quickly can cause digestive issues: bloating, loss of appetite, stomach ache are just a few side effects.

It’s important to remember that more gelatin is not always better, especially if you are adding it to your diet for the first time.

Gelatin should be used in addition to a nutrient dense diet and not to replace real food like homemade bone broths and grass fed meats.
