Market News

We wish you and yours a very happy and safe Independence Day and weekend!!

Vacation Hold – Produce Boxes
Just a reminder if you are going to be away on vacation please make sure you put a “vacation hold” on your Nature’s Garden Express produce box if you are scheduled to receive one. You can simply do this online or give NGE a call and they can set it up for you. If you get an email from them on Friday with your box menu that means your box is NOT on hold and will be delivered Tuesday. As always you can delete your box order before their Monday morning deadline.

Grass Fed Ground Buffalo and Pastured Chicken Breasts
Carrell Farms and B&G Farms will list as soon as these items are back in stock! It will either be in time for this market or next week. Thanks for your patience! Both these items are big sellers at our market and they run out quickly!

My Daily Bread
Due to some health issues they will probably be on the market in 2 weeks. I will send out a reminder. Please keep Dabrielle in your prayers!

Mountain Fresh Creamery (repeat)
We will no longer have Mountain Fresh Creamery on the market. The supplemental feed they give their cows contains GMOs. I am currently looking for a new dairy to provide us low temp pasteurized milk. I will keep you all updated. In the meantime, please consider Cedar Rock Dairy and Lil Tots Estate.

New Items

New! Marshmallow Treats from KKD! These all-natural crispy treats are made with nutritious brown rice and homemade marshmallow . Flavors available are Sticky Toffee, Hot Cocoa, Very Berry and Coconut Creme. These are definitely an upgraded version of the rice krispies treats from my childhood! :-)

Looking for an easy side dish for dinner?
Try Rapid Gourmet Couscous Cranberry Almond mix during the steamy days of summer. Serve as a side with your favorite chicken recipe. Or add a salad and it’s a perfect light and delicious meal! Another option is to add some diced chicken or ham, broccoli, diced carrots and green onion for a one pot meal. You can serve cold or hot.

Buttermilk – Raw Jersey Cow Milk for Pets (Plastic Jug)
Here are several ideas for using buttermilk:

  1. Bake with it.
  2. Make a batch of pancakes and/or biscuit.
  3. Make a creamy salad dressing.
  4. Use it in frozen treats
  5. Use it in a smoothie to make it tangy and rich.

Beets – Detroit Red (Small)
Here are a few of my favorite ways to eat beets.

Raw! – Yes, beets are quite good raw. Slice them up and serve them with a sprinkle of sea salt, pepper, chili and lemon juice. Eat them by themselves or add them to your salad.

Roasted with goat cheese! Roast beets in a preheated 400 degree oven until they are fork tender and juicy, Then add some spicy greens and goat cheese. Add some pine nuts or walnuts and you’re in heaven.

Pickled! – Pickled beets are just wonderful. The tangy vinegar and sweetness complements beets’ earth under notes. Here’s a recipe to try for old fashioned pickled beets http://thenourishingcook.com/fermented-pickled-beets/

I haven’t tried grilling them yet but that’s on my list!
