New Grower: Welcome Back Caley’s Kitchen Garden

I am very excited to welcome back Rebecca Caley of Caley’s Kitchen Garden in Buford, GA to our family of growers and vendors!! http://www.caleyskitchengarden.com/

Caley’s Kitchen Garden is a small family farm located in Buford,GA in the Hamilton Mill area. Their property is only 1 of 2 properties still zoned agricultural in that area! They have a variety of seasonal produce growing but their catnip, wheat grass and microgreens are ready for harvest. They will list more produce items as they become available. All fruits and vegetables grown on the farm meet our strict standards and are grown without the use of synthetic chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Wheatgrass is high in antioxidants and nutrients. It contains iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin A (as beta-carotene), vitamin C and vitamin E. It is considered a “medicinal superfood”, and there are many proposed health benefits with regular consumption. In fact, the list of health conditions it supposedly treats is lengthy and includes anemia, diabetes, tooth decay, high blood pressure, digestion problems, high cholesterol, bladder infections, kidney stones, common colds, bronchitis, fever, sore throat, gout, wound healing, liver disorders, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, skin conditions, and even cancer. You can juice the wheat grass and drink straight up or add to your favorite smoothie recipe. Can also be chopped up and added to salads or soups.

Microgreens are packed full of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Can be used in any salad, a topping for tacos, perfect to dress up appetizers and great with your favorite grilled fish.

My Daily Bread is on the Market this week!
My Daily Bread usually lists their items every other week but they switched a few things around and can deliver this week. Yay! They also have some new items on the market- Gluten Free Banana Walnut Muffins, Organic Banana Chips, and Mini Pumpkin Spice Bread.

Lizzie’s Pantry has added Organic Buckwheat and Organic Quinoa to the market. They also have their 5 Gallon Plastic Bucket w/E-Z Open Lid and Gamma Lids ON SALE this week!

Southern Essentials finally has more of their popular Lavender with Activated Charcoal soap back on the market. Charcoal and soap-are two words that don’t really seem to go together. Activated charcoal(a specially processed form of carbon) draws impurities and toxins out of the skin, helping to relieve acne and other skin problems. Fragrance Free Activated Charcoal soap is also available.

Buffalo Gal Grassfed Beauty has added EYE REVIVE – Herbal Tallow Eye Treatment. The skin around our eyes can lose its elasticity and collagen more easily than other areas of the face. New Grower: Fry Farm

New Grower: Fry Farm
I am very excited to welcome Vicky and Steve Fry of Fry Farm in Bethlehem, GA to our family of growers and vendors!!http://www.fry-farm.com/

Their family has been gardening and growing food for decades, and their passion for producing and eating local, organically grown fruits and vegetables drove them to make their products available to the public.

Fry Farm NEVER uses chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or GMO seed to grow their produce. The farm is inspected and certified under the Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) program and the letter of certification can be found on their website. They only use trusted sources to obtain untreated and organic seed.

Yesterday I visited the farm and met with Vicky. I can tell by talking with her that their family finds great joy in being good stewards of the land, thus providing great tasting, fresh produce to their customers. This definitely drives their success!

My Daily Bread will be listing their items every other week. Feel free to double up on items that you would purchase weekly. Breads, tortillas, muffins, and other items freeze well. Stock up!

This weekend we will have our Group Buy for Great Lakes Gelatin- Grass Fed Collagen & Gelatin!

We order collagen every 2 months. One can of collagen/gelatin is a 2 month supply for 1 person. Please keep this in mind when ordering.

The prices include our discounted group buy price, sale price (if applicable), shipping, fees and taxes.

THIS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP THIS TUESDAY.

I will place our group order on Monday and expect it will be available for pick up within 2 weeks. This is a prepaid pre-order, so payment is expected this Tuesday. If you are only ordering Green Pasture or Great Lakes products this week, please drop a check in the mail or online payment on the co-op market website.

Great Lakes Collagen Info

Great Lakes Gelatin (the Green can) Collagen Hydrolysate (beef kosher) Unflavored

Gelatin (also known as cooked collagen) has wonderful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging qualities, as it helps to fill in the missing amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) in the standard American diet. This is a completely different from the jiggly gelatin product most of us grew up eating as kids.

Homemade bone broth is chock full of gelatin and very nutrient dense but Great Lakes Gelatin- Collagen is a convenient way to get gelatin consistently into your diet.

What is Collagen Hydrolysate?

Hydrolyzed Collagen is the unique combination of amino acids in concentrated levels that promotes rapid re-production of blood cells for healing and conditioning over other proteins especially for bone and joint health care. This low molecular weight protein is easily digested for healthy enrichment in minutes after ingestion. How do I use this product?
You can mix it in drinks, shakes, smoothies, or add a tablespoon to your favorite recipe to give it an anti-inflammatory protein boost. It will dissolve in cold liquids very easily.

How Much Do You Need?
Recommended dosage: Take one rounded tablespoon (10-12 g) in the morning, and the same amount before going to bed in the late evening which will help reduce appetite. This product has a low molecular weight so it will dissolve in cold, warm, or hot liquids.

Important Note: Remember not to get too carried away with gelatin. Adding too much too quickly can cause digestive issues: bloating, loss of appetite, stomach ache are just a few side effects.
